Embracing Change: Navigating Scorpio Season's Depths

We are now in Scorpio season, a sign associated with change transformation, death and rebirth. These themes may play out for us until November 21st when the sun will change signs into Sagittarius.

Before I get into it, I just want to be clear that Scorpio doesn’t always mean literal death - it’s often metaphorical and speaks to some type of change. Releasing old ways of being, doing or thinking and making way for the new.

However, Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, which is associated with the Greek God Hades, God of the Underworld. The Sheppard that takes souls from this life to the next.

I had planned to write a long post about Scorpio, going through the associations etc… But today I want to actually address the topic of death. Which no one really wants to think about I know, but it is part of life and we can’t avoid it. This is very apparent to me right now.

One of my dear sweet cats is currently approaching this journey which is why I felt like I wanted to chat about this. Such is the way with having pets. She’s an elderly lady so she has had a lovely long time with us, but It’s so bittersweet because we have these beautiful little companions to be with us through life, but their time is short.

Many animal lovers know they are more than just pets, they are friends who help us through hard times just by being there.

Did you know the frequency and vibration of a cat’s purr is actually healing? Studies have shown…blah blah blah. Those who know, don’t need me to provide scientific evidence, you just know. But you can look it up, its true.

People have also often said that when they lose a pet, another shows up in their life at one point or another, and some say this is a gift from your passed-on pet who sends you another friend when you are ready.

Some people disagree that you can call a pet a familiar, which is a term most of us have heard to describe a witch's companion. Technically, a familiar has to come to you as a stray or be a wild animal.

Well, my cat did come to me. She lived next door and didn’t get along with her owner’s dog and used to run away to my house. In the end, my neighbour thought it was best she lived with me as she seemed more comfortable here.

And 7 or so years later, we are sitting together in the garden which she loves, and just enjoying the sunshine together.

It’s sad that she is reaching the end of her life. As humans, we have to let our emotions out and feel them, so I am trying to make space for that. But also I’m happy I have been able to give her a safe comfortable home for so long and will continue to do so until she chooses.

Maybe Scorpio season is associated with death because they are such a deep feeling sign, and you can’t feel grief without feeling deeply for something.

Losing a pet may not be as life-changing as losing a spouse or parent, or any other close human bond, but we still have to deal with the emotions.

We shouldn’t shy away from talking about death or those we have lost. I know it makes lots of us uncomfortable and we don’t know what to say to those in the thick of it, but sometimes the kindest thing to do is not treat it like the elephant in the room.

Scorpio energy does not shy away from this stuff. Pluto is a planet that wants to get under the surface, extract the truth and bring it out into the light.

Not many people see Scorpio as a healer, that’s usually reserved for Virgo, Cancer or Pisces. But Scorpio is the one that will pull out the root when others are more comfortable attending to the symptoms.

This time of year is more shadowy, people talk about the veil between life and death thinning and feeling more introverted and reflective. Craving quiet away from the noise.

Right now I am enjoying the birdsong of the little blue tits that have miraculously appeared in the apple tree next to me, closer than they have ever got before. It’s also said that birds are messengers or carriers of spirits, here to usher those from one life to the next.

When this little cat’s time comes, I wonder if she will come back as a bird? Perhaps as one of the little blue tits in the garden. Although I think she would prefer to just come back as a pampered, fluffy, well-fed little creature again!

Sending big love and hugs to anyone else dealing with grief this Scorpio season, I’m with you! Whether that be letting go of something, or just feeling a bit tender. At least we all go through it together.

Thank you for reading this post, and being here with me. I recommend writing to help you process things, it sure has helped me.

Love Joey
